Pablo Gentile is an interesting character that I met in Bali Indonesia while renting a beautiful guest house from him in Seminyak in 2006, vis-vis a friend of a friend, Anita Lococo (who is massively interesting in her own right). I think he ended up in Bali after wandering the hippie trail in the 1970s, although I could be mis-remembering that fact as he didn’t seem that old. His guest house was filled with wonderful large pieces of his art and sculpture.
I recall he was working on absolutely gigantic installations of carved stone walls and huge pieces of installation art. It was all very impressive and he was definitely in the mix on the island for sure, a well known artist. I was relatively young at the time with limited funds but I was able to secure a couple large pieces of mixed-media art from him that I love as they remind me of Buddha dreamscapes. I believe he has since experimented with more modern forms and music. You can check him out at https://www.gentilefineart.com/ and Instagram. I have included some pictures I have from that time as well as a large Batik that I picked up from somewhere random. I think Pablo framed it for me and had it shipped with the rest of his art as the cost of doing this in Bali was advantageous at the time.
This first piece of art (a diptych) I think was called Buddha Clouds or perhaps that was the name I gave it. They are mixed media, oil, paper and gold foil and large, roughly 3′ x 5′. In addition there are a couple of vintage photos of these on display in Venice Beach California, and finally some larger pictures of the individual panels.

This next piece is also very large, roughly 3’x5′. It doesn’t have a name or I cant recall it though it features a Green Tara. The Green Tara is a significant figure in Tibetan Buddhism, a female embodiment of compassion and wisdom, known as the “Mother of all Buddhas”. In a Green Tara meditation practice, after visualizing Green Tara, the practitioner often envisions her dissolving into light, which then dissolves into their own being, symbolizing the purification of fear and delusion and the merging of one’s mind with Tara’s enlightened mind.
This piece is also mixed media, oil, paper, and gold foil. There are several other motifs and I’ve included some closer shots of the artwork. This hung in Venice Beach California for years in Penthouse 5 of the Waldorf.

This Batik was purchased in Bali Indonesia in 2006. It is large 5′ x 3′ approximately. It has significantly faded over time and is very fragile. I have included pictures of the reverse side to show the initial vibrancy of the piece. I need to get this reframed and display the reverse side. Pablo Gentile generously had this framed for me and shipped back to California with his artwork.

Here are some photographs of Pablo’s guest house in Seminyak. I believe all the artwork and stonework was done by him. It was a very nice house with a casita and a pool. I would like to get back down to Bali. I think Canggu is the hot new place, when we were down there, there was a really nice couple who did acupuncture and lived out there, I think his name was Tonzan. Canggu was semi rural back then.
